Ghana Losses AFCON 2019 Seeded Pot

The Ghana Black Stars have lost spot one which is the seeded spot in the upcoming draw for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

 

 

The Confederation of Africa Football confirmed the news in a video the mother body released which shows Ghana was not among the seed countries.

According to reports, the seeding was based on the latest FIFA rankings which was released last week where Ghana moved three places up to pick the 49th spot in the world and the 5th place position in Africa.


Ghana finished first in Group E of the qualifiers which gave the black stars hope that the team will be seeded but their expectations have unfortunately not seen the light of day.

Ghana has been placed in Pot two alongside alongside DR Congo, Mali, Cote D'Ivoire, Guinea and Algeria.

The countries which occupied the seeded pot are Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco and Cameroon who are in Pot one.

The AFCON has been scheduled to take of from July 21, 2019 and will be hosted by Egypt.

Pot 1: Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria and Morocco.

Pot 2: DR Congo, Ghana, Mali, Cote D'Ivoire, Guinea and Algeria

Pot 3: South Africa, Uganda, Benin, Mauritania, Madagascar and Kenya

Pot 4: Zimbabwe, Namibia, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Tanzania and Burundi
